hey guys, Bane here.
So for my ENG 102 Class in college, we are talking about Michel de Certeau's The Practice of Everyday Life. In this essay, Certeau's main point is that in our everyday lives, there are two forces at work. These two forces are Strategies and Tactics. A Strategy is "the calculation or manipulation of power relationships that becomes possible as son as a subject with will and power can be isolated." This basically means that a strategy is anything that those in power do to keep those without power in line. He then says that a tactic is "a calculated action determined by the absence of a proper locus. No delimination of a exteriority, then, provides it with the condition necessary for autonomy." This is basically saying that a tactic is anything that you do in your everyday life that somehow resists what those in power tell you that you should do. this can be pretty much anything from taking a bus instead of driving, to going to a job interview in jeans and a T-shirt. These tactics are not things that directly go against the power figures, such as rioting or other illegal activities, but more to the sense of things that you do that may either make your life easier by doing something that may go against the grain a little bit.
So getting to how you guys get to help me with my homework, we are supposed to create our own essay about a "tactic of resistance" that also performs a "tactic" by resisting the expectations of a normal academic writing. And so, i decided to write my paper on how talking about "tactics" is a 'tactic", and using a forum to talk about these "tactics" is in itself a "tactic" of resistance against normal academic writing.
So basically, I would like the following posts to be about either what you guys think about these ideas, and any "tactics" that you perform in your everyday life.
Thanks for all the help guys!
Bane
